Fallen Angels — Functional Parallels For People

Life is a series of choices. Our parents teach us to be good. But there comes a time when they are required to let go. When we become adults we become responsible for ourselves. The same is true regarding angels. At a certain point in time, the Eternal will allow them to go and they must make their own choices. The reason for this is: the Creator does not want robotic beings (human, angel or otherwise) to be the function of the universe.

Angels are called, at times, stars of heaven. The dragon (Satan) took a third part (one third) of the stars of heaven (the angels) down with him when he rebelled against God (Revelation 12:3-4). These became fallen angels. The other two thirds of the angels remained as loyal angels. The loyal angels were not subject to the same influence that the other one third fell victim to. The loyal angels did not exhibit the same gullibility that the other angels exhibited when they believed the slander against God that Satan was using to try to gain power.

FAQ-Bible

All angels have some power. For the purpose of keeping the fallen angels from warping the balance of power, some of the fallen angels have been placed in restraint. “And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness to the judgment of the great day” (Jude 1:6).

Many of the fallen angels did not stay loyal to their original duty, but left their own function. Having abandoned their function, their activities would be to serve the “way of get” which is opposite to God’s way, “the way of give”. The same decision process is required of humans when they are called by God.

Peter draws a parallel between preachers who try to make merchandise of people and angels who have sinned.

“And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingers not, and their condemnation slumbers not. For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment…” (2 Peter 2:2-3). The King James “hell” is from the Greek word “tartaroo”, meaning conditioned restraint.

The fallen angels are reserved until the day of judgment. Some may give up their rebellion. Most probably will not. Most of these are the angels that seek to be worshipped (Colossians 2:18). The loyal angels refuse to be worshipped (Revelation 22:8-10).

Fallen angels are a class of demons. They (like Satan) were not created evil. They became evil. Angels, like people, start out neutral. They were taught to be good but they have freedom of choice. Exercising the wrong choice results in penalties. The reason demons are generally restricted from the third heaven (the throne room of God) is because containment of evil is one imperative of God. It has apparently been pre-ordained that the containment vessel for evil will be this world until the day that evil is destroyed. Satan and his helpers, the fallen angels, will make one last push. Satan will be banned from heaven for the last time, after which he will come down having great wrath, knowing he has but a short time (Revelation 12:12).

After this short time is over he (Satan) will not “…be any more” (Ezekiel 28:19). The same fate will likely befall the majority of the fallen angels.
